Heyzeus is growing so fast! We have had him about a month now and he has grown almost 5 cm to (almost) 12 cm now and his gills have really filled out! He thinks he is pretty majestic;)

And yes, the container he is in for this picture is rather small - it was during a water change for his big tank - he seems happy to sit in his bowl for an hour or so while his water cools back down - doing daily changes in a smaller tank while his BIG tank cycles :)

As soon as he moves into his permanent home I will post a pic of him in it :) He is currently hanging out in a 10 gal with daily changes and will move to a 20 gal later:happy:

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
