The condition of the newt with the cloudy eye in yesterday's photo...
...has taken a turn for the worse, with what seems like fluid buildup, possibly pus. Only one eye is like this, the other seems fine.
In a post from last year by Eric, he spoke of a newt whose eye had become opaque, then "started to sort of bubble up" and then burst. Sounds like this might be the same thing. At that time, Jen said the treatment options she knows of are swabbing with either 50/50 hydrogen peroxide/water or Neosporin. But that was for after the eye burst, not before.
Any suggestions as to how to deal with this problem at this stage? Not sure whether it should be treated with salt, iodine, dirt, some sort of tropical fish treatment or what...or whether it would be best to keep it in new, clean water or out of the water completely (it seems to prefer being out of the water right now). If it begins to look like it's about to burst, think it's be best to have my vet do it before it bursts on its own?
I have the feeling I'm asking questions nobody has sure answers for, but thought it's worth a shot!
