Hi all. Please help. I’m not sure how or if I need to help my axie with a cut upper lip. It looks like a significant gash that started as what looked like a small sore. I was worried I’d nipped her with the feeding tongs, but since it’s gotten worse, I’m concerned it will continue. Please see the photos. Last photo is my setup.

Take out anything that seems even remotely sharp (could be something inside a decoration) and watch it for now.

Make sure your water quality is also very good , up the water changes you want that to heal before it gets infected.

Cant see it from the pictures but it seems like very wide cut?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
