Anyone know what this could be? Illness? Physical wounds? Scarring? Do axolotls scar? I did not think that they did. Been in the hobby for 5 years. Kept axolotls for 4 years. Still have my original Axie.

So these white spots have been on this female axolotl for 4+ months. There is no sign of the spots spreading or getting bigger.

The spots are not fuzzy and are not able to be physically removed via Q-tip.The animal does not appear to be irritated or in pain. Eats well. Normal activity levels. There are 2 other axolotls in the same tank that are completely unaffected. Salt baths are ineffective. Adding salt to main aquarium is ineffective. Kanaplex medication is ineffective.

Tank is a 40 Breeder with no aquarium light, artificial plants, 3 pieces of driftwood, several large smooth stones, and 2 AC70 hob filters. Tank is cycled and has been established for nearly 2 years. Once a week water changes of 20-30%.

Water parameters:
Ammo: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: <5ppm
pH: 7.8
Temp: 66°F - 70°F

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
