I purchased an axolotl on Tuesday, which was shipped the same day.
The package was lost for a day or two but just showed up at a post office in my state (not nearby enough for me to drive in time to get there before they close).
Tomorrow will be the 6th day it's been in a box...
What's the chances it will still be alive? I'm very scared and would like to know before I open the box tomorrow.

Edit: it's only about 3 inches long if that helps...

Assuming it was packed properly, it will be fine.
Most shipping companies purge axolotls before shipping ( this means they didn't feed it a day or two before shipping, this means it doesn't make as much waste in the bag and the water is cleaner ).
He won't starve, healthy axolotls can go a couple of weeks between meals with no long term effects.
I would be worried about the temperature in the bag and the amount of ammonia and nitrite in the bag. Axolotls are tough creatures, wry difficult to kill.
When he arrives he may look a little off ( pale and just sitting around ). Make sure you acclimate him properly. :)

The way I prep and package them makes them safe for at least that long. I can't speak for the way anyone else does it.

Thank you guys so much for responding to me. I've been a nervous wreck all weekend.
And as an update Margie, the two axies I bought off of you are doing wonderful. :) The melanoid has need named Base, and the golden albino is Cheesecake! I've also gotten a lightly speckled leucistic named Axel!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
