I'm interested in getting a Kweichow crocdile newt. I've been researching a lot but what I can't seem to find is sound info on their habits. Are Kweichows aquatic, semi-aquatic, or terrestrial?

I too have heard mixed reports on how to keep them. But I usually see them housed in semi aquatic or glass divider setups. I know some people have had pretty good success with them in a terrestrial setup during the winter and then a semi aquatic during spring. This stimulates breeding. All in all though, I think a semi aquatic is a safe choice of tank setup. -Seth

And some of the "kweichowensis" that you find might end up being T. yangi, especially if they're WC

I have kept two Kweichowensis for 6 years now. Completely terrestrial, with life plants. They have large water dish they can completely submerge in. They seem to be doing fine and are very responsive at feeding time.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
