It's been at least a year or two since I regularly came on this forum as I no longer had my axolotls, but now I have some again and I'm back and something that seems to be gone is the messenger function that used to be in the bottom right corner of the screen? I remember having a lot of fun chatting casually on there so I'm hoping I just don't have something activated or what-have-you. Also sorry if this isn't the right place for this post but general discussion seemed to be the best place for it.

Unfortunately chat is no longer on this site, which sucks as it was very good for socialising and provided instant help for people who wandered in with questions/problems.

That's such a bummer! Was there any specific reason it was discontinued?

I vaguely remember that the firm which provided chat went bust and it never got replaced. Idk why not, it was a very useful thing to have.

I think that's pretty much it although there is a thread on it somewhere...

It is a shame its gone as I think its nudged more than a few people towards spending more time on facebook groups and only visiting caudata.org occasionally, or when they have problems after taking bad advice from the clueless 'experts' you can find elsewhere online.

For good axolotl advice join my group "Axolotl care" on Facebook ?

Can we start some sort of petition to try and get them to bring the chat function back? I think this site should definitely have a more casual social environment available where we can discuss little changes in our set ups or just generally be friendly and talk about life, instead of everything being about sick pets and having to tell people who have never had an aquarium before why their axolotl died.

No, a petition won't do. This site isn't a democracy. It's owned by John Clare and he has been prioritizing other things lately. In fact the site was shut down for a short time. We need to be respectful of the work he has done and for what we have here, and not be demanding. This site is run by volunteers. I think if you want to "chat," maybe we can do it on Facebook. Someone could organize something. I don't know for sure, I don't like to chat myself.

Petition was the wrong word, more so gather enough people saying they'd like the feature to show that it is something the people would like to see. I wasn't demanding anything at all and I certainly wasn't attempting to insult any other work anyone has done on the site.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
