Ok, I know that axies should be in 16-18 (66/68) degree water ideally, but if the lowest I can get my tank is 21/22 (so max 71.6 F,) will this harm it?

I can't afford a chiller and I'm afraid water bottles will raise and lower the Temps too fast.

Is 71.6 going to make it sick? (I'm hoping to be able to be able between 66 and 68 but just in case....)

It's been extremely hot in my area recently aswell, in the hundreds just about every day for the last month. I've managed to keep my two axolotl tanks between 68-72 °F and they seem to be handling it well, I wouldn't be to concerned about it.

We've had the same problem in the UK and my guys have also handled temperatures in their tanks up to 22C for short periods.
I have 2 tanks, each 200L, and I have found that using frozen water bottles only takes the temperatures down a degree or two. I have been using a combination of 15% water changes, frozen water bottles, mesh tank lids and fans, which has kept the temperatures at around 19-20C when the weather outside was above 26C.

Ok perfect!!!

When the ac is on, the tank was at 19 degrees which is good. Right now, the tank is cycling with guppies so I have a heater on it, but once it's cycled the heater will be taken out and the guppies are going.

In the winter we are going to try to keep it at 19-20 degrees.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
