It's been a while since I posted here, but I thought some of the salamander enthusiasts here would enjoy these videos.

I went for a walk in the woods one rainy night this summer, and saw lots of amphibians out. Redback salamanders (Plethodon cinereus) were all over the place. I sat down under my umbrella and watched this one for about 15 minutes. It let me take a video of it trying to catch some bugs. At the end of the clip you can see it eating in slow motion.

I also saw this red eft (Notophthalmus viridescens) climbing on a tree and eating bugs:

Next summer I hope to do more salamander and other herp videos.

Thanks to you both!

I have one more video that includes a wild salamander (Ambystoma larva), but it is mostly wood frogs:

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
