I have two newts but I don't know if I have males or females, on the species info it tells u about what happens to the male during breeding season is there any other way to tell what I have got.

if you look at the shape of the cloaca you can generally tell, the males is rounder and the female's longer. if you posted pictures we could give better advice

Actually, outside breeding season, eastern newts don't have much difference in the cloaca. Sometimes you can tell by the width of the back legs. For photos, see:
