In another newt loving forum. I read that someone kept 20 newts in a 40 gallon tank. Is that too much? I don't know how big the newts were or what species, but I do know that all of them died. So I guess I just answered my question.

Rep: ali has started on the right path

Yeah, that was too much. I don't know exactly how many I would house in a 40 gallon of a given species. But I know the rule with fish is one inch of fish per gallon of water, this seems pretty fair for newts too. Maybe add a little more water per inch of newt than inch of fish.

20 newts sounds like overcrowding though. Unless maybe they were juvies.
