 Hi guys, has been a while since i posted, lost my details to be exact, but thought i might post my latest 2 axies to my axolotyl family. The golden (Amy) in the front is almost 23cm and the wildtype (Motyl) is 25cm. the new additions are the albino (Talula) and the olive one (Olive, original i know).

They all seem to co existing quite well, adn have quite a large area to live in. (they have a 5ft tank).
I have very small gravel in my tank., after going through large gravel at the start, (very bad) then large cobble stones, (a nuisance to clean), then sand, (got smelly??? couldn't control the ammonia in the tank) then finally to the smallest gravel i could find.(with undergravel filter, marvellous invention). Hopefully all goes well and i have 4 very happy axolotyls.

Axies rule.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
