Just seen on Amphibiaweb the addition of two new Hynobius species from Taiwan, H. fuca and H. glacialis. Has anyone seen the paper describing them? are there new to science or splits?

paper reference: Lai J-Sm Kye K-Y 2008 Two new Hynobius (Caudata: Hynobiidae) salamanders from Taiwan. Herpetologica 64:63-80.

I have the pdf if you're still interested in it. The paper isn't too clear (on a brief read anyways) whether they are totally new discoveries, but they seem to be at least recognizing novel taxa that weren't known before. Not sure, I'd have to read it in detail later. PM me if you want the pdf.

I briefly mentioned these two species amongst many of the other new vertebrate species described so far in 2008 here:

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
