Hi all,
I noticed today that one of my tanks has tiny organisms zipping arround on the glass on the inside, and i am worried that they will move onto my axies skin or cause some kind of trouble. I believe that they came from plants that i added a few days ago from a pet shop, there apearence from what i can see is similar to that of a fairy shrimp only a lot smaller does anyone know how to get rid of something like this,
Cheers

Tank critters usually start populating your tank when there is a large amount of food for them. This can be algae, uneaten food or decaying plants. The great majority of these guys are harmless and pose no problem.

If you want to get rid of them and keep them gone you'll have to starve them out. Feed only what your animal will eat and remove uneaten food and waste immediately. Pull dying plant leaves as soon as you notice them and do a 20-30% water change weekly. These steps should gradually reduce the number of critters. Any healthy tank will have some number of critters in it, oftentimes these are never even noticed by their caretakers.

Hi Rich,

It is very important to quarantine any addition to your tank for at least 30 days. This includes plants.

If you do you will reduce the risk of introducing parasites and disease.

Good luck
