Hi Paul
mine are morphing too! They were born in december. How long do yours take to reach sexual maturity? I find males take two years while females take one year more.

My larvae are from March!
I keep them in a tank in my garden!

To reach sexual maturity they need the same time like yours - female sometimes one year more!

Nice to see all of these transformations. What size are all of your animals when they crawl on to land?

4 have a total lenght of about 5,5 cm (1 week on land) - these in the midle is smaler (1 day on land).
As larvae I kept them with different lighting. Those with bright yelow colour got much more light than those with less yelow.
But they all will get the typical terrestris coloration in some months.

Hello,

do you have any photos of mature specimens enclosure? I'm curious to see how it works. Do you have a water area in it all year long?

Regards.

@Ben, from the genus Salamandra I only keep S.s.terrestris!
For me this is the most beautiful subspecies - and those, that live here in the wild!

Gravel (6-8 cm) in water (3-5 cm) and two open waterparts all year long!
"It works" if you have the right temperature management over the year, and the right wetness and food.

Hey,

splendid terrarium :).

And what temperature do you keep them in? Do you use a "winter time" when temperature gets much lower? This looks like a big terrarium. I would say something about 240 litres but from photos it is sometimes hard to exactly determine a size. Could you provide also this information?

Thanks!!

around 20 °C in summer, and in winter the temperature drops down under 8°C sometimes near 0°C.
The area of the terrarium is 135 * 40 cm
