Puberty!

Do axolotls go through some form of angry teenage puberty? My axie used to be really wimpy and would hide at the back of the tank if I was changing the water or cleaning it out with the turkey baster but now he comes to the front and he watches me, and he'll swim closer to keep an eye on movement in the room. He's taken particular exception to a large spray bottle I use to water the giant african land snails, and he's also pretty unhappy about the turkey baster. He'll swim after it and head butt it repeatedly, and occasionally attempt to eat it. Same occurs for my fingers if they're in range. I'm expecting him to paint his tank black and get piercings next! So, yeah, does development of territorial behaviour link to anything interesting? And how on earth does he decide what to go for? I mean, I can't imagine his eye sight is great and he'll attack things outside of the tank. Anyone else got this funny behaviour?

mine does the turkey baster thing. im keeping myself amused by making her follow it about, whether its just round the tank or up near the surface of the water. tries to eat the worms before they fall out too.

Axies will be attracted to and snap at anything that moves ie turkey basters, fingers. I've seen mine snap at the plants in their tank.

I think your axie has just settled in nicely, they are very curious creatures, mine especially come out if I turn the light on!!! (I only turn it on for a few minutes each day so I can see the poop).

I think the water's just about finished settling, he's much more active than he used to be (patrols the tank!) Hehe, it's fun that you get curious behaviour like this. Much more exciting than fish
