Here are a few new shots of my beloved babies Max and Suzie.
They are doing fine and thank me every day that I got them
out if the lab!:D
They have nice round bellies now (I feed as much as fits in there,
what means pellets, bloodworm, earthworm...) and they are always
hungry and eat with great appetite.:D
They even got rid of the feeder guppy which I had planned as a
longer term thing (two big pregnant females for releasing babies
over a longer period) in just 5 days...

Suz has got a gorgeous mask going on there, beautiful babies
Only one criticism, it looks like the water flow might be a bit harsh in the tank- judging by their gills in the photo.

Good that you mention it...
I am thinking about the waterflow problem.
I only have a airpump bubble thing in there,
no filter (but 20% waterchanges every day what needs 5 minutes).
I already have a airpump that is smaller than the recommended one
for my tank.
The airstone sits in one of the corners of the tank.
I already tried different things, like covering the airstone
with rocks...
any other suggestions what I could do?

I wouldn't think an airstone would cause that much water movement, but this would depend on the size of the tank.

Is the pump valve adjustable? If not, you could try putting a peg on the air tube to lessen the air flow. Aquariums also sell valves that can adjust the air flow if the pump is not adjustable.

When I used an airstone, I put a big rock on it as it looked rather pretty having bubbles bloop up around the rock.

I am a bit hesitant to tie a knot there,
after my tubing is not long enough at the moment
(have to get some more from the pet shop).

I did hang the airstone a bit higher in the tank (1/3rd up)
and this had some improvement.
:D

by the way---
Here is a picture of my axie Max just a second ago....
he always shows this BIG smile.
he is soo cute.
:D

he also does not look gill stressed at the moment, does he?
:uhoh:

If the axolotls are eating well, and they are obviously regenerating very well - I would say there is no problem.

If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it.

Stef, on this picture I posted last the airstone is directly
behind Max--
it is sitting in the hind left corner.:D

Havelock--
thanks for your oppinion!
That is a relief.
Yes, the axies have an unstoppable appetite...
and Max is even sprouting two hands on the left now...
(see other threat)

Awww, these 2 are gorgeous! Such happy, smiley faces :)

Isnt it so easy to get hooked on clicking away with the camera? LOL Beautiful babies you have.

Yes, Terri....
:D
I find it difficult to control my camera button finger....

Hi there,
I am back between some hard research work in the bush...
:D
my axies grew up quite a bit since I showed pictures last...
Amazing how fast they grow!
They also have regenerated all their missing limbs and gills.
;)
They also seem to have turned out MALE, both of them...

Very cute, how Max proudly displays his fashionable head decoration of sand. :D

Cute little devils - what have they been up to in that sand?!

That Max looks about as innocent as my mutt after he has done some 'landscaping' lol.

I just love the red sand.. looks very australian... what's its name?

Also my axie Mole, he has his little regeneration mutation going on he got a tiny tiny hand, kinda like nemo's happy fin...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
