hi, this is what i have so far.[/ATTACH][/ATTACH][/ATTACH]

i might have a potential problem here. the great stuff expanded into a crevice that i cant really cover with silicone. it is right at the end of the aquarium intake in the waterfall so it will be exposed to water. i'm worried about the toxicity of the great stuff, and the fact that someone told me it doesn't hold up to water. is this true? do i need to do something drastic? possible problem 1.jpg

I've never worked with greatstuff, but completely cured it should be nontoxic. No idea on the water thing.

I have used sodium bentonite clay mixed with other substrates for backgrounds and it works very well. Easy to mold, ready for use right away, and will hold its shape as long as it doesn't dry out completely or become real waterlogged. For the area around the waterfall some carefully selected and camouflaged rocks/corkbark/wood would be best.

JMO, and hopefully someone with experience working with greatstuff will respond!

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
