My axy, Naboo has refused his food for the last three times now....been offering him as usual and he turns his nose up . Odd as he is a hungry chap! He is also not very active & I have even paniced that he is dead and almost screamed and put my hand in to touch him but then he swims. Help :( Thanks xx He has sand as tank floor & he eats pinkies

Is that the only thing you offer him to eat?
If so.... its possible he's fed up with the same thing.
Pinkies can be fed as a treat but really aren't suitable as a complete diet.
Earthworms, slugs, snails( shell removed), woodlice are all good foods to offer your axie. My axolotls main part of their diet is earthworm, with prawn and liver as treats.
How old is your axolotl?

I offer him blood worms too. We have no idea how old he is as he was given to a pet shop. Just know he is an adult. Sorry :(

Yes bloodworms are good too,and it would be lovely for him if you could introduce some of the things I have mentioned into his diet also.
As long as you take them from a chemical free part of a garden the insects I have mentioned are free so this makes axolotls a cheap pet to keep once you get the basics sorted.

Would you be able to post us a picture of him? We love seeing pictures of other people's axolotls and it can often help with a problem you might be having.
Do you test your water conditions? I'm talking about testing for ammonia, nitrite's ph, that sort of thing and also how often do you carry out water changes and how much water do you remove each time?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
