ive been interested in tiger salamanders since ive been into caudata and i finally got 1 female eastern (i think) tiger salamander about 3 weeks ago. She stays buried most of the time (she’s made a home for herself under the water bowl/tray so i see her most days when changing the water)

anyway i been feeding her by putting in earthworms and just letting her find them herself. this is A: inefficient B: restricting her diet. i was wondering how do u feed your tiger salamanders without disturbing them too much (digging them out)

In the beginning of having them you can put the worms at the opening of their borrows/hides, but after a few weeks your tiger salamander should become extremely outgoing and crawl out of it's hiding spot to get food.

Good Luck!

As Dane said, most tiger's will become tame enough to come to you for food. On the rare occasions my tiger isn't ready to eat when I open the top, I tap gently on the enclosure side. The vibrations seem to be enough to get him roused and ready to eat.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
