Well it's time I start trying to breed them again. I have currently set up this 1.4 gallon tank for them.

No filter means I will be cleaning the water every two days. If they succesfully breed in here the I will move them back into the bigger tank so they wont eat the young.

I will post pics of how it goes.

Enjoy!

Best of luck with these.
You'll want to keep infosuria levels up and parhaps add daphnia to the water to establish. Have you tried an undergravel filter? That way you shouldnt need as many changes and you keep the daphnia levels up too

Mine always used to spawn when I dropped the pH (gradually!) - you might want to try a big waterchange with rainwater or RO water.

Haha I might finally be in business here!

So since a while before I stated this thread, I hadn't heard my male call to female. Yesterday I fed them blood-worms which they're not used too and about 20 mins ago I heard only one call too my female. CHecked 5 mins ago and found them in amplexus.

Sad news I don't think I can try and rasie the tads up, no room or right equipment, shame :(

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
