One of the cool things with that group is that that mating ritual there helps to prevent hybridizing. I don't remember exactly, but either the tail to body ratio or the distance each species moves forward, but when you get courtship between different species, they're unable to breed because when they move forward like that, the female (in the rear) doesn't line up with the spermatophore and no fertilization takes place.

Thanks for the video Nathan, Plethedon species are one of those species where you don't get to see this kind of behaviour to often.

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
