Too much filtration?

Hello,

I'm moving my 5" axolotl to a 10gallon tank in a couple days. I have an Rena Filstar XP1 canister filter that I am wondering if it will be too powerful for. The tank will be full, and have some rockwork to diffuse the outflow.

But still, the XP1 flows 250gph, which would be a 25x turnover per hour. Is that okay if the flow is diffused??

Thanks.

The XP1 is rated for a 45 gallon tank. Putting it on a 10 gallon tank will be serious overkill.

Dang.. even if I built a nice spraybar for it out of PVC to diffuse the flow?

I have a HOB that would work.. just wanted to put the canister to use.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
