Might sound silly but..... I was wondering if axolotls panic when a storm is coming like other animals do ? Late this afternoon we had a storm coming & our guys were darting all over the place, this went on for almost 40 minutes. I haven't seen them like this before, mind you we have only had them for 6 weeks now. Thank goodness they eventually settled.

Axolotls should be able to sense the pressure change that is the harbinger of a storm. This can even be used as a breeding stimulation in other amphibians by simulating rain when the real rain hits. I wouldn't say they panic, but they can definitely react to it.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
