Hi, i just bought my friend a larva from of tiger salamander, a mudpuppy. the day i got him he was doing great and very active. now a day later, my friend said he lays on his side and isnt as active as he used to be. its still in the same water that we got him in. whats wrong with him?

I think the word needed here is probably "waterdog". What kind of container is it in, and what's the total water volume, roughly? Any filtration? What kind of food? Your friend needs to start partial water changes immediately, using treated (dechlorinated) tap water.

I'd also mention that these animals are often kept in terrible conditions before purchase, so the animal is probably very stressed.

As a first action to be taken before it will be to late, I will suggest you to change your animal water for a new bottled mineral water as soon as posible.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
