Hi!
i boughttwo baby axies a couple of months ago, but one of them died, the doctors couldnt really say why... so my other axie is alone now. what would be better for it, leave it alone or by a friend for it? how big a terrarium do two grown up animals need? i do a partial waterchange every week and i have a filter, but how often should iclean the whole terrarium? my axie looks perfectly healthy, no signs of stress, but in the last couple of days i saw it flouting at the top of the tank, what do you think is happening?

It does not need a friend. Any time that you keep two or more together there is some risk of injury to each other. Alone, they are quite happy and no risk of injury.

If you do partial water changes every day, you may NEVER need to completely clean the whole aquarium. What is the size of the tank? I have aquariums that have been running for 5+ years and never "completely" cleaned all at once. It's better this way, but not always possible if the tank is small.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
