My 2-year old Melanoid female just produced a clutch of eggs wherein 681 of them hatched successfully. Based on the amount of unfertilized eggs and dead larva found, 681 accounts for almost %97 of the total eggs that she has lay. I'm expecting my other Melanoid female, the bigger sister, to produce a larger clutch any day now. I roughly eye balled about 250 "Masked" leucistic larva in the current clutch. She is A/A - m/m - D/d - Ax/ax. The second mentioned female can be expected to produce a significant fraction of her clutch both Gold, Melanoid, and Axanthic Albino. She is A/a - m/m - D/D - Ax/ax. 'Big Daddy' is A/a - M/a - D/d - Ax/ax. A perfect hetero! So that's about it. I'm just sharing. I have 10 other adults. I'll try and get some pics up when I can finagle a camera from someone. peace!;):p:rolleyes::D:cool:

Good luck feeding all those babies! Looking forward to seeing pics.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
