Hey guys

I already have one axolotl called Gill i love her to bits and just love axoltls in general
Even though i love Gill i think it may be time to get her a friend

so the question is...

I have a 2 foot long by 1/1.5 foot wide tank so do you think it would be ok to have two axolotls in that size tank???

any help will be much appreciated :D

thanks

Hi T-Man,

I am afraid that tank would be too small for two axolotls. I would have to recommend you invest in a bigger tank. You can still keep the small tank as a quarantine or isolation tank so nothing will go to waste.

Cramming too many axies in a small confined space can result in stress (and hence illness), aggression and cannibalism, water quality issues and definitely welfare issues. I am sure you want your axie 'babies' to be comfy and happy.

Cheers.

Oh i thought that would be the case

oh well thank you very much for your help i will be sur to get a bigger tank (if my perants will let me haha)

thanks =]

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
