heya guys, My babies are dying really quickly... have no idea why, I change the water every day in their tank 100%. My only answer is that the daphnia I am feeding them is too big :S do you think that I should run down to the store and get some micro worms?? The daphnia that I got were the smallest in the shop... they just seem rather large in comparison to the babies. Can you please help quick before i loose them all. This is really nerve wracking!!!

For feeding my little ones i Use the daphnia type D.Pulex. They are much smaller. I run a culture and feed the freshly hatched ones to my axolotl and let the adults produce more babies. I did buy a few bags of daphnia off a mail order live food company and they were all too big for them.

See if you can get a daphnia culture going and you should have more success. Good luck.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
