ok so after 2 weeks i cleaned my tank out that holds my 8 c.orientalis.
the procedure took me several hours to make sure everything was perfect.
and when it came to putting my newts back in all but one seemed fine.

this particular newt my biggest male decided to keep spinning up side down and twitching.

i immediately took him out of the water and placed him in my rehab tanks .

has anyone experienced this before? and is it major?

I had issues like that when i was a little kid and put newts into water with chlorine(there are sooo many things one ignores when he is a kid...).
That kind of behaviour points to water chemistry/quality...did it look normal once it was out of the water?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
