my mates daughter has just been round and she loved my 2 little guys, anyway shes only 3 and asked me "what do they drink?" ah bless lol

axolotls dont really drink, they gain moisture from, well their tank water...

what they eat on the other hand, anything that fits in their mouth :p

(worms and grubs)

cute question though, very cute.

Hi Orangebud,

Axolotls get their hydration not only through 'ingestion' of tank water, but also through their skin (that is why we can soak them in amphibian ringers solution for fluid therapy), and to a lesser even oral mucosa. They are fascinating creatures.

Cheers

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
