I was wondering if I could use a all-natural grapefruit air freshener in the same room as my fire salamander... It's supposed to be just grapefruit oil, but I'm not sure if it will be harmful.. It's one of the cup-fresheners, not the spray.

Thanks for your help!

for better or worse I use air fresheners.

one spray, one pump spray, - mostly for emergencies "no my house doesn't smell like a pond" moments

I have reed oil diffusers in other rooms for constant "nice" smells. I prefer flowers. I personally think my tanks don't smell but my mother INSISTS they smell like a pond. Or Ponds.

My tanks light units over them and are never in line with any of the sprays. All oils and foreign liquids are kept well away from the tanks.

Ok, great.. Thanks! I think I'll go for it, and just monitor his behavior really closely..

It's not the salamander that smells, it's my boy mousie, and the smell drives my parents crazy, so..

it's important to keep the parents happy! Air freshener it is..

oy male mice/rats can reek. try a layer of baking soda in the bottom of the pan, then pine pellets, then shavings or carefresh or whatever you use. Wash his toys & wheel at least once a week.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
