Axolotls are cannibals. That doesn't mean they'll actively seek out and devour their tank mates, but if they're too close together, or get too close at feeding time they may lose an arm or leg. Not to worry though, they also have the ability to regenerate almost anything that gets bitten off. Two axolotls in the same tank shouldn't be a problem as long as they're well fed. Have you read www.axolotl.org/ ? That's a good place to find out exactly what you're getting into.

Hi,

you only should observe that the difference in size isn`t too much (<30%), because all that an axie can get into his mouth, will be eaten.

Callina is very correct. A general rule is if an item can fit into the axies mouth, sooner or later they will try to eat it. You said one was pink? This probably means that it is very young. You should probably try to wait to introduce them until at least three months or 5-6 inches. You need to give them time to fully develop their senses, young ones tend to snap at any form of movement. Cheers-

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
