lifespan

I would imagine Jacq knows better than I do.

All I can do is tell you what all the books say, and that is that they live, on average, to around 15 years. Although one in France apparently lived to be 25.

WOW!! thats a long time
how big do they get when they hit that age? x

I lost my original axolotl last year. (RIP)
He was purchased as a two inch long neonate in 1998.

Reports tend to vary but anywhere from 7 to 25 years have been reported.

I have read that actively breeding females do not live as long as solitary males, but this was anecdotal, unsubstantiated data.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
