Where in tucson will you be? Metropolitan tucson is very urban - depending on where in tucson you need to be - kind of depends on suggeted camping sites.
The only camp sites I can come up with off the top of my head and are easy to access...
Mt. Lemmon - near the top are several maintained campsites but its to cold up there for most reptiles.
Reddington pass - really lame at this time of year because of the lack of water in the ravine. But if you can find some of the semi permanent pools - you'll probably find some non-native water turtles some jerks have "released" I tried to catch a snapper in one for 2 years before a really bad drought completely dried of the pool and a racoon ate it - all I found was the shell.
Sabino canyon - probably your best bet. Most likely to have water - not really far "outside" of tucson. I THINK it has overnight camping. You'll find every kind of snake tucson has to offer in that canyon, as well as mountain lions, bobcats & coyotes.
There is a camping ground behind mount lemmon but I can't think of the name off hand.
But if you know whereabouts you need to be - I can find the campgrounds for you - or find the fish & game/ranger numbers for you and you can ask them....
Outside of Tucson and closer to my area are Cochise Stronghold, Dos Cabezas, Patagonia.. there is an area behind Reddington Pass that doesn't see a lot of traffic except for hunters, and the reptiles are thick back there. I wish I could remember the name of the canyon.
Any way - it all sort of depends where in tucson you need to be.
