One of my lug clutches has emerged and they're starting to explore.

Awesome job, as always Russ. You make Aneides breeding look too easy. I'm still having trouble sexing all my young aeneus. Looks like the outline of the upper jaw might be dimorphic from the one mature pair I have, but so far can't find any other traits to compare. Still no eggs visible in any of them.

Neat shot. So is your setup as simple as it looks?

Fantastic, Russ. Well done, as always.

Tim

Usually I could tell the gender of adult aeneus just by the head shape, with the male's being overall broader and more defined.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
