I went to my LFS today, and I noticed that they have trout pellets. The brand says Aquamax Grower 600, but they look just like the Rangen brand and are quite soft. I took a photo of the label with my cell camera, but the quality is extremely poor and you cant really tell what most of it says. I can upload it if you would like though. Would you say its safe to feed my axies this? Should I get more info on it?

Thanks.
Mark

Hi Mark,

Many people use Trout or Salmon Pellets to feed their axolotls the important thing is to make sure they have good nutritional value.

I agree with Ian. As long as you use them as part of a balanced diet, any high-quality carnivore pellet should be fine.

What should I be looking for in terms of whats in it to make sure its healthy for my guys? Its $3.99/lb. Is that expensive?

Mark

Nevermind, I notice Eds Fly Meat offers theirs for $6/lb. I think I will go for this to see if my guys will go for it. Good idea?

I bought trout pellets as well, but my guys won't eat it :-( Still working on it, I finally got them to eat earthworms, I guess they just needed to adjust, so I hope they will eat trout pellets as well.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
