Hey everybody!

I was wondering if anyone of you keeps (or kept) crystal red shrimps as life food source. I bought a new tank, it's cycling now, the shrimps will arrive next week. I found plenty of info about keeping them as pets, but I was just wondering if anyone of you kept them as life food.

I've got two axolotl's by the way :D

I've used cherry shrimp as food for my axys and Ambystoma andersoni on occasion. They are about the same size as the crs and much less expensive over here. I've also used them as food for Pipa parva, P. waltl, and tried them with some smaller salamanders. Some small salamanders only eat them occasionally and they can overpopulate a tank. I think they might eat eggs but that shouldn't be a problem in an axolotl tank. The axys and andersoni eat the shrimp pretty fast.

Cherry shrimps are cheaper over here as well. The new tank is on my desk, so I thought: Let's take a species that also looks cool. :D

There's a small disaster over here. I was supposed to get them from a company in germany, something went wrong with the delivery, now it's been a week since they were first put in a package...... They'll arrive tomorrow or saturday, but I'm afraid they are all dead!!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
