So my Axolotl has this weird look to it.
Since I've had it, it's been a slow grower.
It's in my 20 gallon tank in a net breeder that's about 10" long and 8" high.
I have other Axolotls in there so I don't want mine to get eaten or bitten.
It's right next to the flow of water to keep fresh water in the net "box."

I want to say it's about 3.5" long?
It looks like it's neck is always tilted to the left.
No fungus or other weird stuff happening... gills are intact... healthy appetite.
I do a 50% water change weekly or if I'm too busy, by week 2.
The temperature is about 76F but before that, when it was younger, it was in a tank that was 82F.
I was hoping it would speed the growth but nope.

I'm totally new at this so bare with me.

I doubt you could speed up the growth - it's like feeding a kid extra carrots to make it grow taller when in reality it's all genetics.

Axolotls don't like to be in the flow of water...

Can you provide a photo?

Well it's not directly in the flow of water.
I read they didn't like it but I didn't want it to be in complete still water.
So the flow is at the surface.

I could try and take a picture of it soon but I'm not at home very often.
So I'll try my best.

I didn't overfeed him either to make him grow more.
I just had him in water warmer than they usually are kept in.
Like I mentioned before, he seems to be pretty healthy and eats fine.
I'm just thinking it was born with a disability. It just grew that way.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
