my axolotl has a piece of his tail gone where the clear part of the tail is. Will it grow back and look normal again or will it grow back messed up like lizards that grow back tails ? Sorry if i posted in wrong spot. plz delete this post if i posted in the wrong place.

Hi axolotlfan,

The tail will heal and look fine. I assume you mean the fin along the top of the tail? Mine used to damage his own tail there all the time. It always grew back without any noticeable scar or anything.

You could have posted this in the "sick axolotl" forum, maybe, but I reckon it's fine here too.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
