Hi
Thank you!
I started off wanting one axolotl but soon became addicted!

Wow, I can't get over how long Freddie's gills are.

Hi Mel,

thats what happened to me too.....and I believe ........most of us. At first it´s only an infection, but then an addiction.;)

Have fun!

Hi Greatwtehunter
Freddie had been in a tank previously without a filter. I thought this could have been why his gills were so long, but he is now in the big tank with the other two.
Finleys gills are a little smaller than they used to be. I'm hoping Freddies stay long coz he/shes so pretty!!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
