Hi,
My axolotl whom I have had for about 3 weeks is having great difficulty eating. He will accept the worm pieces, but as he gulps it down he ends up spitting it right out, and continues gulping water. I tried whole earth worms, which seemed to wriggle out of his mouth. So then I cut the worms in pieces, which as I said, end up spat out. Its as if he can't swallow them, although he occasionally has success. But he has hardly eaten anything since we've had him, and is getting thinner. He wasn't interested in the frozen bloodworms I gave him either.
Also when he eats, or tries to eat, he does this weird floating thing where he sort of falls about and floats and does handstands and even rolls right over like a dog. Its like he is in a trance and is all floppy! Is that normal?
Today he seems to be having trouble staying flat at the bottom, like his back half keeps wanting to float up and his head stays down. Not sure what to do. His tank temp is a little high, can't get it under 22C. I think I might have to fridge him (have read about that on here), but I'm scared to do that if he hasn't even been eating because he won't want to eat much in the fridge, and then he'll lose even more weight.
What to do? Any advice appreciated.
