Hi, I currently have a 3 by 1 by 1 foot aquarium with one 7 inch leucistic axolotl from an old tank in there. I was wondering if I could fit two more axolotls in there. The tank is cycling at the moment so it will be a couple of weeks until I get them. Any help would be grealy appreciated.

Hi,

For juveniles this should be fine but the bare minimum (In my opinion) is 3long 2wide 2high for adults.

My tank is 3long 2wide 3high with 3 juveniles in but im selling my 2ft tank soon and by time they are adults i will have a 5ft and will probably sell or move the 3ft.

Tank size help

Does anybody have any opinions on how many axolotls I could get in my 36 by 12 by 12 inch aquarium . I already have a white 7 inch leucistic in there and the tank is currently cycling. I have a fluval u3 and plenty of hiding areas if that helps. I did have a golden albino axolotl who was about 9 inches long, but unfortuantely she died while I was on holiday . So I want to find a friend/s for my leucistic male. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Tank size help

anybody? I really need advice. :(

Re: Tank size help

You MAY be able to squeeze 3 adults in there if they're small, but I wouldn't put more than 2.

I believe the rule is 10 gallons per axolotl. Just wanted to add that, cause it seemed helpful to me.

Thank you all for your help

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
