Just thought i'd share a little pic of Freds first baby Dogga.
He hatched in May.

He is about 2 inches.

Thanks for the new pic, Mel - he is a cutie! I am not seeing any iridiophores (could be mistaken - not wearing my glasses at the moment!) - have you ruled out the possibility of him being melanoid? In both pics, the rings around his eyes look non-reflective. Maybe just wishful thinking on my part for you to have your melanoid! ;)

I can see rings in his eyes :S

Cute cute cute :)

Well worth the wait! Dogga is truly extraordinary! Those long gills are simply amazing! 6" already? He may be well on his way to becoming a monster! :D

Wow, Mel! He is truly remarkable! He's almost Andersoni like in his markings. I could go on and on!! I don't think I've ever seen another like him!

Good thing I don't live on the other side of the Atlantic, I'd already be anticipating offspring!! ;) :D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
