I've noticed lately, Sek has got these odd spots of darker colour on him. There are a couple on his face which are small, but they're bigger than his usual wild type spots. He had a bit of a fungus infection over the last week (Which cleared up perfectly in a couple of days with salt baths and fridging) I thought they might have had something to do with the fungus, but they didn't fade or go away with the fridging & salt baths.

Sorry the images look blurry, I've just changed to a bare-bottom tank.

Does anyone know what this is?

I'd just like to add that Sek had kept cutting himself on his hide -- which I have now removed. He has cuts on him, and the weird patches on his skin (his face, that I know of) were where he had cut himself before when he was younger.

Could they be from healing? He definitely has a normal appetite and I can't put him in the fridge at the moment as ours died yesterday... new fridge tomorrow.

His mouth is sort of blue-ish coloured. I was thinking it could be the weird white/blueish patches of his slime coat shedding due to some stress from changing to a bare bottom?

Also, don't mind the food on his face (LOL)

Would a tea bath help at all?

Sorry for the many questions -- I just want to know if he'll be okay.

I'd just like to add that Sek is back to normal and his weird colour patches are gone. I still have no idea what they were, but I'm glad he's back to normal... Thanks for reading my thread.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
