Illness/Sickness: Black Bum

I have to axlotls my oldest one which is only proberly 10 months old has a black mark on his bum. Is he ok?? My other axlotl looks healthy.

They look like freckles to me. Has he always had these?

Also... Get rid of those stones and replace with sand or have a bare bottomed tank ASAP.
Your axolotls will digest the stones and it usually results in death.

no he's only recently got them...i don't know if there a maturity mark or something. Thanks for the tip with the rocks.

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
