after all these years these guys (Cynops pyrrh.) know that if the BIG Hand appears from the Sky there will be FOOD!

(their tank looks a bit bare because I took some of the plant pots out to vacuum the gravel)

Looking good. I feed them much larger pieces (almost as long as they are themselves). OK, I have around 150 newts, so larger pieces is more time-saving ;)

Your newts are so well behaved! Mine usually react to the smell of food by swimming around headlessly and biting random body parts of each other

oh yes, mine do that too. Hand-feeding allows some control over the chaos! I cut these up because these worms are about 8 inches long, and if there's any piece sticking out of a newt's mouth the others will come and try to eat its head. They'll try to eat my fingers too if I stick them in there.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
