A friend that works for a major zoo in the U.S. is looking for some hellbenders for the zoo. Does anybody know of a source. This has to be a legal source. If you don't feel comfortable posting to the forum please email or pm me.

My fiance worked for St. Louis zoo and they have a giant hellbender collection. I believe over 300 or more. I have been in the room that is in the basement of the herp. They have a big simulated stream full of adults and crayfish and small fish. The walls are lined with juvie tanks and other adults. Just past that is a hatchery and hundreds of eggs and little ones. I'd tell him to talk with their herp curator Jeff Ettling and I believe the keeper in charge of the program is a woman named Heather. Anyway thats would I would talk to. Also if you ever get a chance contact Jeff about maybe seeing behind the scenes. Seeing hundreds of hellbenders or their komodo holding pins is just beyond description.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
