Spotted Salamander migration in south carolina?

I'm curious to know if anyone on here can help me with some info on when to look for spotted salamanders crossing the road or how to generally find them. I have yet to find one in 10 years of looking and would like to know what i'm doing wrong. We have red, mud, marbled, slimy, two lines, and duskys and i never have any problem finding those. I've been told the spotteds are here. Can anyone help me?
 
Ambystomatids usually migrate with the first rain after a ~50F night. So once it starts warming up above 50F, and then the first time it rains, they'll migrate. Look in areas that have vernal ponds. I don't think you'll find many near the coast.
 
If you have a local herp society they should be able to tell you specifics for the area. They may even invite you to help the migrating adults cross the streets! Like Kaysie said, they'll come out usually the first good rain, and sometimes the stragglers will be out the second rain. If you miss it you can usually at least see the egg masses in the vernal pools after the adults have returned to the land.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
