Hi guys my batch of babies some developed some white stuff on the gills.. wondering if it's fungus.. i took pic but my camera failed to get the details of it. my concern is, can treat them with salt baths?? they are only 2.5 cm right now.

As an immediate measure, move them to a clean container. The fuzz could be debris, or it could be infection breeding (partly) on the inside surface of the tank/container due to food getting stuck.

I've never tried salt on such small ones. You might want to try it on one and see if it goes OK.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
